The Practices of Community: Prayer
Prayer

The KC Boiler Room is committed to being:
A prayerful community practicing a daily rhythm of all kinds of prayers on all occasions.

We deeply value prayer and believe that God is real, interactive and entirely interested in listening to and answering humanity. Prayer is humility—the simple and raw confession that we need God. We acknowledge that without dependency on God in prayer nothing of eternal value will result. Prayer is the place of friendship where we dialog with the God who so deeply loves us. It is like breathing, allowing the presence of God to pervade our lives again and again. As we encounter Jesus we are transformed, renewed and compelled by his worth. Often our time spent loving God in prayer is translated into our lives becoming the very answer to our requests. It is our committed devotion as the Kansas City Boiler Room to be a people in love with God through prayer expressed in various rhythms.

Prayer Rhythms:

24-7 Prayer Weeks

We have committed as a part of our prayer rhythm to spend approximately a week in 24-hour prayer out of every five weeks, throughout the year. In semblance to the larger international family that we are apart of, 24-7 Prayer, we divide the week up into one hour time blocks. Various individuals, families or friends sign up to spend their hour with God. Each week is themed according to what God is leading us to focus on as a community. Our prayer weeks have become a consistent catalyst for spiritual life, direction and growth.

Daily Prayer

In Daily Prayer we pray three times a day (morning, noon and evening) helping us to involve Jesus in every aspect of life and remain unified as a community though we are spread out across the city. This is the way Jesus taught us to pray saying, “give us this day our daily bread.” Over the last 2000 years various strands of the Christian faith have similarly practiced a consistent daily absorption of grace through prayer. It is our hope to be more disciplined, unified and Christ-centered through daily prayer.

The themes are prayed everyday for one month and then rotated.

Suggested method:

Morning – Take a 15 minutes to 1 hour with God to pray for the monthly KC Boiler Room theme. We are also committed to focusing in prayer on one nation a month.
Noon – Set your watches or cell phones to 12 pm and when you hear the alarm pause and say the Lord’s Prayer printed below.
Evening – Take a few minutes before your meal with whoever is eating to pray for the determined theme.

“Like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.” Ps. 1:3

“This, then, is how you should pray: ” ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’ Matt. 6:9-13
