Justice & Mercy
A Boiler Room is committed to being:
A just and merciful community where the practical needs of the local poor are met and where liberation is championed.

We live in a place of serious tension, somewhere in between beauty and pain, the temporary and the eternal, the now but not quite yet. It is right to long for resolve, and still feel the pain of the distance between heaven and earth. There is so much inequality in our world, and we want to be those who act justly and love mercy, leaning on the faithfulness of God all the while. We aim to be a community that champions the voiceless, forgotten and poor people of the earth; after all, this is one of the only biases we see at work in the heart of God.

“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for the least of one of these brothers of mine you did for me.” Matt. 25:40

The Front Door:

“The Front Door exists to receive the stranger and invite them to belong to our Christ-centered, loving family.”

The fourth floor of the KC Boiler Room building on 38th and Main is home to a multi-use space conducive to hospitality. There are private residential spaces, surrounded by public space; six to eight men call the Front Door home, and constitute an intentional, small community that engages in mindful discipleship. There is one Open Room used for purposes of providing space for overnight guests of all kinds. A food pantry is in operation, run, both by residents or members of the larger Boiler Community. In addition, an artist’s studio and workspace will provide a creative atmosphere for those looking for a break from the big city. The kitchen will be large and the dining room table, perhaps largest of all. The living room, kitchen, and dining room table will all be situated to encourage mingling, conversation and comfort as meals are shared and lives are lived, side-by-side. Also, and quite critically, somebody will always be home…the light will always be on. This fact will be widely known.
